ebode bulletin # 8 - April 2011
Welcome to the first newsletter for 2011. This bulletin was due to go out in the first week of March, but it just didn’t seem right when the country was still in a state of shock and grief about the earthquake in Christchurch. Fortunately members of the ebode team, and our friends and families in Christchurch survived the quake relatively unharmed, although in some cases not without serious damage to property and in all cases with their lives completely disrupted. Our thoughts are with everyone who is suffering at this time.
In view of the devastation caused recently in New Zealand and worldwide by natural events, we have changed the format of this newsletter slightly, replacing our featured home with a special on what elements of your home could help you and your family if you are affected by a natural disaster.

ebode bulletin # 7 - December 2010
Perhaps it has been our amazingly busy year, but it seems inconceivable December is already upon us. It has been fantastic to meet so many people who are interested in sustainable living – with all of our consultants still busy with enquiries after a huge amount of interest at the Wellington, Canterbury and Auckland Home Shows in September and October.
In addition to those already completed or in construction, we have recently signed contracts for several new ebode homes, and look forward to helping more New Zealanders into sustainable homes and lifestyles in 2011.

Setting the standard - ebode's Westmere
BUILD Magazine October / November 2010
Starting with the design, the planning of any urban house is usually heavily dictated by the contour, size and shape of the site. Add in district plan constraints and the requirement for good passive solar design, and it can be difficult to tick all the boxes.

Follow our Urban Eco House Project
ebode has just begun building the first urban sustainable ebode home in the inner-city suburb of Westmere, right in the heart of Auckland City - demonstrating that sustainable designs can be perfect for urban environments and lifestyles.
This ebode designed and built to the highest specifications using ultra efficient European style "tilt and turn joinery" and will use a grid-connected, photovoltaic system to generate its own power, collects it's own water and uses our passive solar principals to make it's own heat and ventilation.

Are green homes too expensive?
By Kevin Ireton - Green@Home Magazine /

"If a 380 sq. meter house with green features costs more than you are willing to pay, it might not be the green features that make it too expensive. It might be the size of the house."

Go with the flow
By Annabel McAleer - Good Magazine /
April-May 2009
Building a new home is fraught with compromise—storage space versus floor area; kitchen budget versus bathroom budget—but never more so than when building an eco-home. “What is the payback period?”
By Mike Bassett-Smith and Shane Robinson
Powersmart NZ Limited
This is the most common question asked on the
subject of solar electricity.
We seem to be naturally curious about a
technology that can produce a long-term supply
of electricity with no continuous financial input,
environmental side effect, or significant change
to our lifestyle. Yet industry, consumers, and
government only seem able to relate the value
of the investment to its energy ‘payback’.
